Jennifer Wong had an early interest in conservation; former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown presented her the city’s Outstanding Environmental Leadership award at age 15 for lobbying the SF School District to reinstate the recycling program. Prior to Bagelparrot, Jennifer was the Director of Finance of the Altamarea Group, a NYC-based, high-growth restaurant group that owns and operates a portfolio of 11 high-end concepts. During her tenure, she oversaw a 400% increase in revenue, and developed and opened units in Hong Kong, London, NYC, Washington DC, and Istanbul. Prior to AMG, Jennifer was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs in the Real Estate Group. Jennifer graduated with high honors from Cornell University in 2008.

JoeLiu

Joe Liu’s background in marketing and product management at early-stage startups has prepared him for spreading conservation awareness. Before Bagelparrot, Joe led digital marketing efforts at Lifebooker.com before transitioning into the Product Manager role. Prior to Lifebooker, Joe was one of the early employees of Fashionstake, a crowdfunding platform subsequently acquired by Fab.com. Joe spent his earlier days in NYC as an analyst at PM Digital for clients across retail, nonprofit, and publishing including The Nature Conservancy, Condé Nast, and The North Face. Joe graduated from Brandeis University in 2007.

Field Partners

Ilona Thewissen is the resident biologist of Tiskita in Pavones, Costa Rica. Originally from the Netherlands, Ilona first arrived in Costa Rica in 2005 to conduct field work for her PhD thesis on scarlet macaw reintroduction. Her upcoming nonprofit will be dedicated to the protection and study of the scarlet macaws released in Tiskita, as well as local conservation education.

Chris Castles is the founder of the former ARA Project. Originally from New Zealand, Chris is responsible for the release of more than 150 birds over 11 years with a success rate of over 90%. He was featured in the critically-acclaimed PBS documentary “Parrot Confidential” (PBS USA broadcast, internationally broadcast by Sky Broadcasting AG) that premiered November, 2013.
